How to: Incorporate chocolate in the morning!

Some of us wake up thinking about chocolate…some of us dont. I fall into the former category and thus had to be creative in coming up with ways I could incorporate chocolate while staying healthy. Enter: Chocolate Avocado Puddin’ and Chocolate oats.

Chocolate Avocado Puddin! ( For some reason I need to call it puddin instead of pudding…just go with it)

First grab yourself some water/juice/tea/coffee. If your like me and get the shakes in the morning from not eating and you may be tempted to shove handfuls of chips in your mouth while your getting out your ingredients…grab a drink!

Then grab your trusty food processor. Preferably a miniature one. Miniature food processors can be purchased virtually anywhere but mine is from Wal-Mart for $10.00 and works like a charm. Now remember that this recipe can be halved for a single serving or if you choose to make the entire recipe and only eat a portion, the avocado can be kept in the fridge for 3 days.

Next cut one avo in half and scoop out the skin. Dump 3 tablespoons cocoa powder in. (I use this brand)Image

Then add in 1 teaspoon vanilla, 1/4 – 1/2 cup sweetener (maple syrup, honey, agave), and whirl. You may want to add in an additional 1/4 cup of water/almond milk depending on the strength of your mixer. Keep in mind that you may need to scrape the sides of the bowl as necessary.

Basic Formula:


1 medium avocado, 1 teaspoon vanilla,1/4-1/2 cup sweetener, almond milk/water to thin as necessary.

Jazzed up:

In addition to the basic…if you really want to be crazy you can add in a mashed banana, 1/4 cup of peanut butter/ almond butter, or coconut milk in substitute of the almond milk. Its your choice! My advice is to grab a couple of avocados…painfully wait until they ripen and experiment! Oh and to throw those snak pak chocolate pudding’s away!


Chocolate drowned oats:

This recipe is so easy Im not sure why I didn’t think of it earlier. I thought it was important to see a trainer before the wedding for a couple of sessions ( Ryan, however, did not find this is as equally as important seeing as how I have no job)! Anyways, she gave me this recipe and seeing as how I cant leave a recipe alone without jazzing it up here is my gift to you!

Best oats method: grab yourself some SCOTTISH oats. These can be found at most grocers. Then soak 1 cup of oats with 4 cups of almond milk/water. I would recommend the almond milk (vanilla) for those creamy oats you see on the packaging. Anyways soak the mixture overnight. In the morning place oats in a medium sized saucepan and bring to a boil…then to a gentle simmer for 10 ish minutes.

Basically when you see the oats getting creamy and delicious you know its time to stop. Now this is going to make 4 servings of oats so what I do because I eat these babies alone, is to save the other 3 portions in a bowl in the fridge for future use.( Ryan hates milk in his oats…I am marrying him besides this fact but it will bug me to my dying day. The guy has milk in his cereal but not oats!).

Now portion out 3 of the servings into a tupperware and place in the fridge for tomorrow and the next day etc.

Now with your individua serving of oats mix in 2 tablespoons of good quality cocoa powder along with 1/4 tsp of salt and 1 tsp vanilla. ET VOILA!

now ladle into your bowl and drizzle with your favourite sweetener/ almond butter/peanut butter/fruit.

Chocolate Oats:

1) Make the oats using the best oat method above.

2) Portion out the other 3 servings into another bowl and save in the fridge.

3) Mix your serving with:

2 TBS cocoa,1 tsp vanilla, 1/4 tsp salt. Once you’ve ladled oats into bowl mix in your sweetener along with your options such as nut butters, nuts, diced/dried fruit, or protein powder.Image
